How to Measure Your Vertical Leap

Although various methods are used to gauge different types of leaping ability, the standard measure of a player’s vertical jump can be obtained by following the steps below.

1. Stand with your side to a wall and have someone mark off the highest point you can reach while flat-footed.

2. Cover the underside of the tip of your middle finger in ink.

3. Move one step back from the first mark (that of your reach).

4. Without taking more than a step into it, jump off of both feet and touch the highest point possible on the wall.

5. Repeat this five times.

6. Measure the heights of your standing reach and the highest point you touched on the wall.

7. Subtract your standing reach from the height of the highest point you touched on the wall. The number you find is your vertical jump.

For example, if your standing reach is seven feet, and the highest point you touch on the wall is ten feet, your vertical jump will be three feet (thirty-six inches).

I’m 6’1" and have a 49 inch vertical...no, actually, no one at that hieght could have a vertical that extreme. The physical strain and stress from not only jumping that high but landing it multiple times would cause various injuries prior to someone actually utilizing this skill in a game. An awful lot of people are probably lying in their posts, or are otherwise being prospected for the nba draft. Be real, please. And Dwayne, your s---is as weak as your spelling, son. .

for all of you who want a higher vert just do calf raises, crunches, squats, achilles stretches, calf stretches and shin stretches for a few months then keep doing them and then start skipping rope(a weighted skipping rope works really good). skip rope every night for at least 15 mins. DO NOT OVER TRAIN. when you over train you actually lose the valuable muscles you use in jumping. the best amount of reps to do is until you cant do the excercise with perfect technique. ANOTHER GOOD TRICK: i’m still in school and after every cla-------i do 40 calf raises (do not do them too fast) . this is really good cuz you get to train every day in school and you can also do lots of stretches in cla------- while sitting. .

wus up. i am a 6’0 wide reciever and i have a 49 inch vertical leap. for all of you who want a higher vert. do a lot of calf raises with weight and do squats. also work on your technique because you will jump alot higher if you jump correctly. get a good triple extension and good explosion and you will see results quickly. by the way im only 21. .
