How to Measure Your Vertical Leap

 

 

Although various methods are used to gauge different types of leaping ability, the standard measure of a player’s vertical jump can be obtained by following the steps below.

1. Stand with your side to a wall and have someone mark off the highest point you can reach while flat-footed.

2. Cover the underside of the tip of your middle finger in ink.

3. Move one step back from the first mark (that of your reach).

4. Without taking more than a step into it, jump off of both feet and touch the highest point possible on the wall.

5. Repeat this five times.

6. Measure the heights of your standing reach and the highest point you touched on the wall.

7. Subtract your standing reach from the height of the highest point you touched on the wall. The number you find is your vertical jump.

For example, if your standing reach is seven feet, and the highest point you touch on the wall is ten feet, your vertical jump will be three feet (thirty-six inches).

i’m 5’9" i’m 15 yrs old and i’ve been working on my jump since i was 12... i couldn’t even get net then.. but by the time i was 13 i could touch the backboard.. by the time i was 14 i could touch the rim.. and now i can stand right under the rim and easily jump up and grab the rim with both hands... but i can only dunk off of a running start.. my vertical is 37 inches now( i’m white too.. if that really matters?) .

I am Korean and 5’9 right now im just jumproping but i have a 28 inch vert. any tips that dont include extra equipment? .

i’m 13 years old and 6 foot 3i can barly dunk but i get up therewht is my hops(i’m white) .

im 5"10 and i can dunk easily with a vertical over 30 but lasy year at 5"9 i could only touch the rim (barely) but i did this program called airalert and my vertical went up but like 10 or more .

Hi, i’m 17 and my height’s 5’6.5" my vertical leap’s around 24" (probably) as I can touch a basketball backboard I’ve done step ups, low box depth jump, 1/4 squat, others. Does leg press really help to increase my leap and is it true if I do workout more than 30 mins, I’ll loss my vertical leap plz help .

im 14 and 6’4" and i can dunk with both hands without a running start or any of that. i got like a 38 in vertical. but i still want higher. anyone kno how to get higher than that? .

yo. i am 6.6feet tall. my vertical jump is 85cm. but if you want to dunk, you must train hard. i suggest one leg squats. \1bosnia and herzegovina boy. 16 years old .

man i see all of you guys are wanting to improve your hops!! im 6’0" and 175lbs. i am not sure what my vertical leap is...i can stand under the rim jump straight up and dunk a ball with not 1 but 2 hands!!! and guess what im flat footed....and u know what i dont do anything special...dunking is about plyometrics...u need a little ups but more body control...and i got my hops through prayer..yeah i prayed to my LORD JESUS CHRIST and i just kept trying...i started dunking when i was 19 years old...im 27 years old now and i can still get up!!! be blessed and continue to reach for the SKY!! .

im 6’1 and i can barely touch the rim and i cannot hangon it. i really wanna dunk before the season starts. The doctor told me im flatfooted and my muscles are tight. how much will this affect my leap? i jump rope a half hour a day to 45 minutes a day and do 200 calf raises on one foot at a time with 2 pound weights on each leg. i also walk around the house on my tippy toes with the weights. What else can i do to help my leap? since im flatfooted will all this hard work pay off, and will how much longer would it take since i dont have any arches in my feet? .

hey im 14 yrs old and im 6’1’’ and i can jump pretty high i can grab the rim if i can get 5in more ill be able to dunk 1 handed i just wanna start one handed and work my way up cus i really would like to dunk in my 9th grade games even if its just one handed .

I am 5’ 10’’, 16 yrs old, and white, and have been throwing it down for about a year now. what i found is that to dunk you need a very strong core, so start doing lots of situps and core strengthening excersises. also, work on jumping quickly. fast twich muscle fibers are what help you defy gravity. .

Try doing one leg squats \1 sure to hurt your legs and give you improvements in a very short time, although you should check online for proper technique so as not to hurt yourself \1 .

my vert lift is 18" by the way or around abouts. .
