Desperate Clippers considering desperate T-Mac

The Clippers will bring in Tracy McGrady for a workout next week, Neil Olshey confirmed. The market for McGrady has yet to materialize after he had a mixed performance for the Knicks. Link
HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: You have your answer to why the Los Angeles Clippers are, well, the Los Angeles Clippers.Instead of rebuilding through the draft, instead of developing those draft picks by providing legitimate mentors, instead of operating with a sense of sanity and purpose, instead of doing what’s right, they do this. The Clippers – after striking out on every major free agent, which was as predictable as full time party girl and part time actress Lindsay Lohan ending up in the slammer – are desperate. They’ve reached out to a desperate, past-his prime veteran. They’ve invited Tracy McGrady for a tryout. Let’s be real. He’s not that McGrady. He’s not an All-Star. He’s not dominating on offense. And he’s not the guy we once compared to Kobe Bryant. He hasn’t been for years. So wipe those romanticized memories of T-Mac from your mind. Face reality: he’s injury prone, especially after coming off micro-fracture surgery; he wasn’t good enough for the Rockets or lowly Knicks; he’s become irrelevant, surviving off his name. McGrady makes little sense for the Clippers. They must build around their youngsters. Not flirt with a superstar who is hanging on and, if he made the team, would demand first option status. Of course, these shenanigans are par for the course with the Clippers. And it’s why they’ll always be second fiddle in their city, and a league laughingstock. --Oly Sandor. Got thoughts? Report: New York trades Lee to Golden State for Randolph, Turiaf, and Azubuike

The Warriors and Knicks have an agreement in place for a sign-and-trade that would send David Lee to Golden State, multiple sources have confirmed. New York could acquire Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf and Kelenna Azubuike in the deal. Link
HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: David Lee has taken a step backwards with this sign-and-trade, which is sad when you consider he has spent his entire career with the lowly New York Knicks. The Golden State Warriors, his new team, have talent. In fact, they’ve got loads of it. Problem is, Don Nelson, the mad-scientist sideline boss, and Chris Cohan, the club’s tyrannical tyrant of an owner, are running the Warriors like a third world banana republic (no offence to developing nations). Together, Nelson and Cohan have alienated several players, including youngsters Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins. It won’t be any different for Lee. Initially, Nelson and the post will be bosom buddies, the apple of the coach`s eye. Perhaps, they`ll even golf together -like the old man and friend turned foe Al Harrington.
However, a minor issue will occur, and Nellie will blow it out of proportion like a miffed teenage girl who obsesses over Twilight. And Cohan will predictably back Nelson.Best case scenario: Cohan sells the team and Nelson is given his walking papers by the new owners. -- Oly Sandor. Got thoughts? Rumor: Bell to join Bosh, James, and Wade in Miami?

"I’d obviously like to play for a winning team and win something. I got two boys and a wife and our home base is Miami so anywhere up and down this east coast would be a great fit for me." Link HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: There are two reasons Raja Bell - an unrestricted free agent - has interest in suiting up for the Miami Heat. First, as Bell mentioned South Beach is home. He grew up in Florida. He went to college in Florida. And his family lives in Florida. So there's a sentimental attachment to the area. Second, Bell is aware of a rumor making the viral rounds: Chris Bosh and LeBron James will join Dwyane Wade and sign with the Miami Heat instead of the Chicago Bulls. James reportedly has concerns about the Bulls: owner Jerry Reinsdorf is always reluctant to spend on winning; Derrick Rose may struggle off the ball next to The King; there's no three-point gunner to spread the floor and keep opposing defenses honest; and Tom Thibodeau is a rookie coach. (Of course, this could be conjecture and speculation. Chicago still has much to offer free agents.) So Bell knows Miami could well become a contender -and surely wants in. The Heat - after the dust settles with James and Bosh - should add Bell. His defense, intensity, and three-point stroke is perfect for a contending team. And he’d likely give oil-slick GM Pat Riley a hometown discount. Right now, Miami is looking to make major moves, which could land them a useful veteran in Bell. Got thoughts?

Nate Robinson flipping out in New York

HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: At times, his swagger was too much. Fair or not, the New York Knicks tired of Nate Robinson showboating like a WWE wrestler. And this led to Coach Mike D'Antoni and Executive Donnie Walsh moving the combo guard at the trade deadline. To the dismay of his fans, the Sprite Slam Dunk champion toned down his act for the Boston Celtics, the defending Eastern Conference champions. However, the old Nate recently appeared at the Steve Nash charity soccer event in downtown New York. Robinson scored a beautiful goal and dropped a celebration that would make every player in the 2010 World Cup jealous. Lakers need Lamar Odom to ‘man up’

"I haven't been sick all season … now I'm sick in the Finals," said Odom after the Lakers' 92-86 loss to the Celtics here in Game 5. "Had to put my hard hat on just to get out of bed. It was tough. "We get to go home and I'll be in my own bed in my own house," he said. "And get to see my wife." Link HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: Perhaps, Lamar Odom missed the press conference where Kobe Bryant told his Laker teammates to 'man up and play'. Complaining about the flu, wanting your own bed, and needing to see your wife doesn't exactly qualify as manning up. In fact, it's copping out. This, however, is typical Odom. At his best, he's a wonderful talent, capable of playing all five positions and stuffing every category in the box sheet. At his worst, he's a passenger, disappearing in the clutch and sometimes for entire games. So Odom is a enigma, which is unfortunate for the Lakers because he's their barometer. When he plays well, they rarely lose. When he struggles, they become vulnerable. And what Odom shows for game-six and seven will determine if the Lakers can come back against the Celtics. Boston fans call Lamar Odom’s wife Khloe Kardashian the ‘Ugly Sister’

"Maybe the best chant ever heard at a sporting event, to Lamar Odom at FT line: "UG-LY SIS-Ter"!. Clap-clap, clap-clap-clap." Ken Berger, CBS Sports, via Twitter, HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call:  Nothing is off limits in the NBA Finals, especially between the Celtics and Lakers. But the Boston faithful's insults had no impact on Lamar Odom's play, even if they went after his wife, Khloe, whose sister is socialite Kim Kardashian. Odom went 5-for-5 from the floor for 12 points to go with 5 rebounds. Best of all, he was active. He attacked the basket, avoided foul trouble, got into the open court, and played multiple positions. In fact, this was the versatile forward's best game of the NBA Finals. Perhaps, the "UG-LY SIS-Ter" chant served as motivation. Got thoughts on Boston calling Khloe Kardashian ugly? Should the NBA protect Vince Carter and players’ families?

SG Vince Carter said he was prepared to go into the stands to protect his mother Michelle when it looked as if fans were becoming rude and unruly. "I was ready to go. I don't tolerate that," he said. Link HoopsVibe's Call: Apparently, Vince Carter told a reporter he'd go into the stands to protect his mother from the Boston Celtics' 'passionate' fans. Fair enough. Most of us would do the same. Frankly, the suits at league head office must be embarrassed by Carter's comments. After all, players' family members often take heat from fans, especially if they're related to the road team. Remember, perennial good guy Antonio Davis once leapt into the stands to protect his wife. A few years back, D.J. Mbenga, while with the Dallas Mavericks, went into the lower bowl to protect coach Avery Johnson's wife, who was being heckled by opposing fans. With this in mind, it's easy to understand Carter's comments. Good organizations anticipate potential problems and take pre-emptive action, so the NBA, at a minimum, should provide the road team's family with a safe, secure place to take in the game. Continuing to ignore this problem will eventually lead to the worst case scenario: another ugly, 'Malice N' Tha Palace' type confrontation between players and fans. Is it the NBA's responsibility to provide a safe place for family members to sit during games? Why? Why not?

Tony Parker Eyeing New York Knicks?

With Donnie Walsh in the market for a point guard, there are reports that San Antonio would consider trading Tony Parker, who lost his starting job to Hill and has told close friends he and his actress wife, Eva Longoria, would love to relocate to New York.
"Pop loves George and I could see a scenario where he would trade Tony," said a Spurs source, referring to San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich. "Tony will be looking for a max deal and New York may pay him."
Parker, who turns 28 this week, is under contract through next season and there are several factors that could prevent a trade from  happening. With the Knicks having traded away their first-round picks for the next two years, they don't have many assets to trade unless they are willing to part with Danilo Gallinari or Wilson Chandler, the latter of whom is recovering from offseason ankle surgery for the second time in two years. Of course, if the Knicks are willing to take on Spurs forward Richard Jefferson's salary, they would increase their chances of acquiring Parker.

Phil Jackson: There’s a 90% Chance I’ll Coach Lakers Next Year

Phil Jackson says he hopes to return as the Los Angeles Lakers coach next season and can't envision coaching anywhere else next year.
Maybe. Probably. Like 90 percent.
"I'd say it's 90 percent that if I'm coaching it'll be here," Jackson cautiously mused before the Lakers game against the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night.
Jackson's contract expires at the end of this season. The uncertainty over whether he'll sign an extension escalated last week when team vice president and Jackson's long-term girlfriend Jeanie Buss said that she thinks Jackson, 64, will coach next season, but wasn't sure that it would be with the Lakers. She said her father, Lakers owner Jerry Buss, doesn't want to continue paying Jackson at his current $12 million a season rate.

Shaq to Kids: Tell Shaunie’s New Boyfriend I’ll Kill Him

Shaunie O'Neal, producer of VH1's Basketball Wives (see pictures of the ladies here) and ex-wife of Shaquille O'Neal, apparently isn't getting along so well with the big fella.  Diesel was already mad that Shaunie was snapped with her new boyfriend Marlon Yates, and the television series prompted him to seek an injunction halting its production.  The basis for that legal maneuver was a "non-disparagement" clause in Shaunie and Shaq's divorce agreement which prohibits either of the former couple making negative comments about the other. Kobe Alters Pre-Game Routine to Kill Shooting Slump

More than 2 1/2 hours before tip-off Thursday, Bryant strayed from his usual pregame routine. Normally, Bryant doesn't touch a basketball on the court until the team emerges from the locker room 20 minutes before tipoff. Instead, he went through an extensive shooting exercise with Lakers assistant coach Chuck Person on the American Airlines Arena floor.
As Mötley Crüe's "Girls, Girls, Girls" blasted over the P.A. system Bryant silently took shot after shot, mixing in drives to the lane he finished with pull-up jumpers and straight-up catch-and-shoot attempts from spots all around the perimeter, playing a personal game of around the world.
His diamond earring glittered red, reflecting the color of the Heat logo being shown on the video screens around the arena, but his right arm shined even brighter as he rolled up his already sleeveless shirt to leave the arm free as it became drenched in sweat by repeating the same machine-like elbow-in, wrist-snapped, arm-reaching-toward-the-roof motion.

Mark Cuban: I Don’t Want to Get Fined

Now, at the wisened age of 51, Cuban more than once smiles at a question and says, “I don’t want to get fined.” From all private accounts, he is still pushing the envelope behind the NBA’s doors, but more of Mark Cuban lives off the record these days.
“When I got into the Mavs, I was like other young people in that situation,” he said as his team warmed up behind him. “I just wanted to take over the world. But you can only bang your head for so long before you realize you’re just leaving a mark on your head.”
He has waged a campaign to overhaul the league’s officiating system, and he was scouting referees’ tendencies long before disgraced former NBA official Tim Donaghy made such charges. Cuban is well aware that the NBA is terribly sensitive to this subject now, and he refuses to get deeply into the issue.
