A 17-year head coaching veteran, who has recorded 20 wins 12 times, Fennelly is the winningest coach in program history, owning a 215-97 record over 10 seasons at Iowa State.
He has led the Cyclones to eight postseason tournament appearances, including a 1999 NCAA Elite Eight berth. He also oversaw the only league championships in program history, winning Big 12 Conference Tournament titles in 2000 and 2001 and earning a share of the regular-season crown in 2000.
"Under coach Fennelly’s leadership, the Iowa State women’s basketball program continues to excel both on and off the court," ISU athletics director Bruce Van De Velde said. "We are very proud of the accomplishments of coach Fennelly, his staff and the women’s basketball program over 10 years of unparalleled success."
This past season, ISU was 23-7, earning the Cyclones’ seventh NCAA Tournament berth since Fennelly arrived for the 1995-96 season.
"I appreciate the confidence that the administration has shown in me and our staff with this extension," Fennelly said. "I think it demonstrates their belief in how well we are representing Iowa State both on the court and in the classroom."
