Favaloro out as women’s basketball coach at New Orleans

03.5.2004

New Orleans, LA (Basketball News) - Joey Favaloro will not return as head coach of the women’s basketball team at New Orleans. He has been offered another position within the athletics department.

"We are very appreciative of the job that Joey has done here," said athletics director Jim Miller. "He always expressed great care for his team both as players and as individuals. My hope is that he remains with us in another capacity, so he can continue to contribute to this university."

The Privateers ended the 2003-04 campaign with a 10-17 record, including a 5-10 mark in the Sun Belt Conference.

Favaloro, who is the winningest women’s basketball coach in school history, compiled a 382-303 record in 24 seasons. The Privateers earned one NCAA appearance (1987) and two WNIT berths (1983, 1988) under Favaloro’s guidance.
