=== Northwestern State rewards McConathy with four-year contract ===

Natchitoches, LA (Basketball News) - Northwestern State has rewarded men’s head basketball coach Mike McConathy with a four-year contract.

McConathy, who led the Demons to the NCAA Tournament this past season, received the first multi-year contract in the school’s history.

The Board of Supervisors of the University of Louisiana System approved a base salary of $99,000 plus incentives for McConathy, who guided the Demons to a school-record 26 wins (26-8) last season, highlighted by a first-round win over Iowa in the NCAA Tournament. Northwestern State then lost to West Virginia in the second round.

The 51-year-old McConathy has guided the Demons to the NCAA Tournament twice, also in 2001. They have four appearances in the Southland Conference championship game. Northwestern State has posted back-to-back 20-win campaigns and is the two-time defending Southland Conference champion.

"Our program is at high a level as it’s ever been," Northwestern State athletic director Greg Burke said. "It’s important that we do everything we can do to position ourselves to keep moving forward. This is an opportunity for the university to make a commitment to Mike the way he has made a commitment to us."

McConathy’s career collegiate coaching record in 23 seasons stands at 464-261. including 112 wins with Northwestern State.
