Arkansas names Collen new women’s basketball coach

03.23.2007

Fayetteville, AR (Basketball News) - The University of Arkansas named former Louisville coach Tom Collen as the new head coach of the Lady Razorbacks on Friday. Collen was an assistant coach at Arkansas from 1993-97.

"I am excited about the opportunity to return to Arkansas," said Collen. "I have always felt that the University of Arkansas has the potential to perform at the national level."

Collen has a 217-70 record in nine seasons as a head coach, five at Colorado State, and four at Louisville, which lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament this season, ending a 27-8 season.

Collen replaces Susie Gardner, who resigned after four seasons as head coach. Arkansas started 15-1 this season, but lost its last 10 games, finishing 18-13, but only 3-11 in the Southeastern Conference.
