NCAA Game Summary - Delaware State at Louisville

Louisville, KY (Basketball News) - Taquan Dean led five players in double figures, scoring 21 points as the Louisville Cardinals defeated the Delaware State Hornets, 71-54, in the first round of the NIT from Freedom Hall.

Also scoring in double digits for the Cardinals (19-12) were Brandon Jenkins and Terrance Farley with 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Terrence Williams and Juan Palacios both added 10 points for the squad.

Dean, who shot 7-of-10 beyond the arc on the night, cleared nine rebounds and handed out five assists as well.

The Hornets (21-14) were paced by Tracey Worley who posted 18 points in 36 minutes of work. Jahsha Bluntt shot just 4-of-14 from the floor, including 3- of-10 behind the three-point line, but still finished with 12 points in the setback.

Louisville shot out to a 12-0 lead and it wasn’t until Darrin Shine connected on a three-point shot at the 14:25 mark of the first half that the visitors managed to get on the board. Holding Delaware State to just 30.4 percent shooting in the frame, the Cardinals claimed a 34-23 lead at the break.

In the second half Louisville extended its lead to 23 points at 59-36, with Jenkins and Dean both hitting for nine points in the period, en route to the 17-point victory.

In addition to shooting 10-of-23 from beyond the arc, the Cardinals also controlled the glass, 35-22. With the win the team will now face off against Clemson in the second round of the tournament on Monday.
