NCAA Game Summary - Georgia Tech at Wake Forest

Winston-Salem, NC (Basketball News) - Will Bynum scored 20 points to lead 11th-ranked Georgia Tech to a 73-66 win over No. 10 Wake Forest in a battle between two of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s best teams at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.

Marvin Lewis added 14 points as he knocked down 4-of-4 three-point shots for the Yellow Jackets (15-2, 3-1 ACC), who have won three straight games. Isma’il Muhammad also netted 14 points in the win.

Vytas Danelius posted 13 points for the Demon Deacons (11-3, 2-2), who have dropped three straight games and had their 24-game homecourt winning streak snapped. Jamaal Levy and Taron Downey each chipped in 11 in the setback.

Bynum’s three-point play early in the second half extended the Yellow Jackets’ edge to 52-45, but Wake Forest then used a 9-0 surge, highlighted by Downey’s three-pointer, to grab a 54-52 lead with 10:25 remaining.

However, Lewis answered with a three-pointer and the Yellow Jackets never trailed again.

Georgia Tech grabbed a 17-11 lead on Lewis’ three-pointer with 14:41 remaining in the first half and the margin grew to eight at 34-26 on Bynum’s later in the period.

The Yellow Jackets maintained a lead of five to seven for the majority of the half, but Chris Paul’s two free throws with 5:04 left in the half brought Wake Forest within 35-32.

Danelius’ layup in the closing seconds of the half brought the Demon Deacons within 45-43 at the intermission.

Justin Gray and Muhammad each scored 10 points in the opening 20 minutes.

Wake Forest’s school record for consecutive home wins was 25 set from 1995-97...The Demon Deacons lost three straight for the first time since February 21-27, 2002...Elder became the 35th player in Georgia Tech history with 1,000 career points on a jumper just over two minutes into the game...The Yellow Jackets snapped a three-game losing streak to Wake Forest and have not dropped four straight to their conference rivals since 1981-83...Georgia Tech had lost five straight times in Lawrence Joel Coliseum and improved to only 4-11 in the building. It marked the Yellow Jackets’ first win in Winston-Salem since February 11, 1998.
