Burlington, VT (Basketball News) - Marcelus Kemp poured in a team-best 24 points, as 22nd-ranked Nevada defeated Vermont, 77-62, at Patrick Gymnasium.
Nick Fazekas added 20 points, three assists and two blocks for Nevada (2-0), which has won its last 11 road games.
Mo Charlo posted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds in the win.
The Wolf Pack shot 50 percent from the floor and never trailed in the contest.
Martin Klimes scored 24 points for the Catamounts (0-3), who were playing in their home opener. Mike Trimboli had a solid all-around night with 19 points, six assists and four steals in the loss.
Fazekas scored nine points in the first half to help the Wolf Pack take a 35-30 advantage into the locker room.
Nevada took a lead that it would never relinquish at 4-2, and went up by as many as 11 points in the opening stanza.
Kyle Shiloh’s fastbreak layup three minutes into the game put Nevada on top 10-4, and Fazekas’ three-pointer later in the frame capped an 11-3 run that made it 23-12.
Trimboli scored Vermont’s last eight points, including two unanswered baskets at the end of the half, to cut the lead to five heading into the break.
Klimes trimmed the advantage to three with a layup to open the second half, only to see the Wolf Pack answer with a 13-6 spurt that pushed the lead back into double-digits.
The Catamounts made one last charge, whittling their deficit to 61-55 with 7:41 remaining, but Nevada outscored Vermont 16-5 down the stretch.
