New York, NY (Basketball News) - Jamal Crawford scored 21 points to lead six players in double-digit scoring as New York halted Boston’s seven-game winning streak by routing the Celtics, 107-82, in Madison Square Garden.
Trevor Ariza netted 14 and Tim Thomas added 13, while Maurice Taylor came off the bench to contribute 13 points and 10 rebounds for New York, which has won two straight and three of four.
Stephon Marbury chipped in 12 points and seven assists and Malik Rose contributed 10 points in the win.
Antoine Walker was the only Celtic to score in double-digits, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Tony Allen and Mark Blount each netted nine points for Boston, which was looking for its first eight-game winning streak in 12 years.
After Walker’s free throw knotted the game up at 15-15 midway through the first, New York closed the stanza on a 16-7 run to take the lead for good. Crawford’s three from the top of the key capped the run and staked New York to a 31-22 advantage after one quarter of play.
Boston fought back in the second and trimmed the deficit to 35-31 early in the frame, but New York responded with a 19-3 burst to open up a commanding 20- point cushion. Taylor’s free throw ended the run as the Knicks grabbed a 54-34 lead with 3:10 remaining in the first half.
The Knicks, who led 56-44 heading into the break, then carried a comfortable 79-62 edge into the fourth. New York continued to pour it on as its cushion would balloon to 25, 95-70, on Marbury’s trey with 4:40 remaining in the contest.
