NBA Game Summary - Chicago at Orlando

Orlando, FL (Basketball News) - Antonio Davis made 1-of-2 free throws with 1.4 seconds left in overtime, lifting the Chicago Bulls to a 102-101 victory over the Orlando Magic.

Kirk Hinrich scored four of his team-high 25 points in overtime and was 10- of-23 from the field one night after going 0-for-7 in a loss to Miami.

The Bulls rebounded from that setback to win for the 10th time in 11 games, moving one game ahead of Washington for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

Tyson Chandler added 15 points and 22 rebounds in the win, and Davis finished with 11 points and 14 boards.

"Another all-around team effort," said Chicago head coach Scott Skiles.

Steve Francis scored a game-high 28 points with 11 assists to lead Orlando, but he missed two potential go-ahead jumpers late in regulation.

"There were four or five breaks that easily should have gone our way but didn’t, and that really hurt us," Francis said.

Jameer Nelson added 18 points and eight rebounds in the loss, although he scored just two points after halftime. He misfired badly on a long three-point attempt at the end of overtime.

The Magic — currently treading water outside the playoff picture — have lost 13 of their last 17 games. They scored the first points of overtime on a Francis layup at 3:41, but didn’t get on the board again until his jumper at 1:18.

Orlando tied the game at 101-101 on Kelvin Cato’s jumper with 43.9 seconds remaining, and looked to have held on for a second overtime when Chicago’s Ben Gordon missed a runner in the lane.

But Cato was called for a foul on Davis under the basket, and the Bulls forward calmly drained his second free throw after missing the first.

"I was right there, and Cato didn’t foul him," said Orlando’s DeShawn Stevenson. "But sometimes you get tough breaks, tough things in life. You’ve got to keep your head up and keep working."

Rookie Dwight Howard had 14 points, 15 rebounds and a career-high seven blocks in the game — Orlando’s first overtime contest of the season.

The Bulls improved to 3-1 in overtime games this season.

Nelson scored his only points of the second half after retrieving his own miss for a layup and a 93-92 Magic lead with 2:50 left in the fourth quarter.

A Hinrich three-pointer at the other end gave Chicago a 95-93 edge, and neither team scored again until Howard’s dunk tied the game with 50 seconds remaining in the quarter.

Francis had two chances late to give the Magic a lead in regulation. One jumper rattled in-and-out, and the second hit off the back rim as time expired.

In the first quarter, Nelson and Howard combined to score 13 points during a 19-2 run that gave Orlando a 23-7 lead.

Nelson scored 10 points in the period, and ended with 16 in the first half, but his hot shooting alone couldn’t keep Chicago from climbing back into the game with a 22-10 run to open the second quarter.

"That first quarter was about as bad as we’ve played," said Skiles. "But we then made some big plays."

The Bulls used the burst to climb within 39-38, and later claimed a short- lived lead before the teams headed to halftime tied 49-49.

Chicago then fell behind by as many as seven points in the third quarter before using a 7-1 spurt to pull within 71-70 heading into the fourth.
