East Rutherford, NJ (Basketball News) - Vince Carter scored 23 points, while Jason Kidd netted 13 and dished out eight assists to lead New Jersey to an easy win over Denver, 94-79, at the Meadowlands.
Travis Best and Jacque Vaughn tallied 10 points apiece for the Nets, who snapped a two-game skid. Ron Mercer finished with 12 points off the bench in the win.
Carmelo Anthony led the Nuggets with 18 points and Kenyon Martin, who played his first game in New Jersey since being traded to Denver, had 13 points in the losing effort. Rodney White came off the bench to score 12.
Already leading, 51-43, the Nets put the game away early in the third quarter, scoring the first eleven points of the frame and went up 62-43. Nenad Krstic scored five points during the burst, while Jason Collins chipped in four.
Bryon Russell finally got the Nuggets on the board at the 6:22 mark when his jumper made it 62-45.
New Jersey’s lead grew to as many as 26 during the third as the Nets eventually led 77-59 going into the fourth.
Denver outscored New Jersey in the final frame but could not overcome the deficit and suffered its second loss in three games.
Martin scored 11 points in the first quarter to help the Nuggets claim a 31-29 advantage after the first 12 minutes.
New Jersey took advantage of poor Denver shooting in the second frame and took a 51-43 lead into the break. The Nuggets only scored 12 points in the stanza and shot 4-of-15 from the field.
Carter finished with 17 points in the first half.
