NBA Game Summary - Denver at Seattle

Seattle, WA (Basketball News) - Ray Allen scored 27 points, shooting 7-of-13 from beyond the arc to set a new NBA record for three-pointers in a season, as Seattle toppled a playoff-bound Denver team that sat most of its starters, 109-98, in the season finale for both teams.

Allen finished with 269 three-pointers for the SuperSonics, who ended the year with a record of 35-47. Luke Ridnour and Rashard Lewis each scored 15 points. Earl Watson scored 14 points off the bench, while Ridnour also added eight assists and five rebounds.

DerMarr Johnson tallied 22 points and pulled down six boards for the Nuggets, who won the Northwest Division and own the third seed in the Western Conference playoffs, but will not have home-court advantage against the sixth- seeded Los Angeles Clippers. Linas Kleiza scored 17 points off the bench, while Ruben Patterson added 16.

Carmelo Anthony, Marcus Camby, Kenyon Martin and Greg Buckner did not play for Denver.

Trailing 97-84 in the fourth quarter, Denver went on a 9-0 run, capped by a Johnson three-pointer, to bring the Nuggets within four, 97-93, with 2:23 left to play. Then, after Seattle’s Nick Collison scored on a layup and Kleiza knocked down two free throws, Collison missed a jump shot and the Nuggets had a chance to make it a one possession game.

Reggie Evans’ running jumper, however, failed to fall, and Allen knocked down two from the charity stripe to make it a 101-95 game with 1:10 left to play. Ridnour then picked Evans’ pocket and scored on a layup to ice the game.

Sparked by five of Allen’s seven treys, Seattle outscored Denver 35-20 in the first quarter and maintained the lead through the first half, taking a 64-46 lead into halftime.

Johnson nailed a three-pointer to start the third quarter as the Nuggets scored the first seven points to get within 11, 64-53 with 9:18 left. Johnson then brought Denver within seven, 68-61, with yet another trey, but Seattle answered with a 9-1 run and led by 16 heading into the fourth, 87-71.

Evans finished with 12 points and a team-high 15 rebounds for Denver. Francisco Elson also had a double-double for the Nuggets, recording 11 points and 10 rebounds...Chris Wilcox scored 10 points and pulled down 10 boards for Seattle. Johan Petro also tallied 10 points...The Nuggets dominated the boards, outrebounding Seattle 45-30.
