NBA Game Summary - Indiana at Atlanta

03.29.2006

Atlanta, GA (Basketball News) - Al Harrington scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Atlanta Hawks over the Indiana Pacers 94-93 at Philips Arena.

Harrington missed a pair of key free throws in the final seconds, but Atlanta held on to end a five-game losing streak. Zaza Pachulia had 17 points and nine boards for the Hawks, who swept the Pacers in the four-game season series for the first time since 1984-85.

Peja Stojakovic had 31 points and Jermaine O’Neal was held to 13 points with seven boards for the Pacers, who have dropped three of four and fell into sole possession of seventh place in the Eastern Conference playoff race — one-half game behind idle Milwaukee.

After a Joe Johnson basket gave Atlanta its largest lead 85-74 with just under seven minutes to play in the game, the Pacers began to get back into the contest.

An 11-3 run, capped by a Stojakovic three-pointer with 3 1/2 minutes to play, drew Indiana within 88-85.

Later, after Johnson extended the Hawks’ lead to 94-90 with a layup with a minute to play, Stojakovic drained a three-pointer with 12 seconds remaining to make it a one-point affair.

Fred Jones fouled Harrington on the ensuing inbounds pass, but the former Pacer missed both attempts from the line, giving the Pacers a chance for the win. However, with five seconds remaining O’Neal back-rimmed a jumper and after an offensive rebound, the Pacers couldn’t get another shot off before time ran out.

Johnson ended with 12 points for the Hawks, who lost to the Charlotte Bobcats 125-117 on Tuesday night.

Josh Childress had 13 points for Atlanta, which won for just the second time in 11 games.

Jones ended with 12 points and Stephen Jackson had 11 for the Pacers, who trailed 26-21 after one quarter only to rally in the second and go into halftime with a 47-44 edge.

Atlanta held a 70-69 edge going into the fourth.

Atlanta improved to 15-20 at home...Indiana fell to 13-22 on the road...Indiana had swept the Hawks in the previous two season series, going 7-0 over that stretch...The Pacers hit 10-of-14 free throws and 9-of-25 three- pointers...Atlanta hit 18-of-26 from the line and only 4-of-12 from beyond the arc.
