NBA Game Summary - LA Lakers at San Antonio

San Antonio, TX (Basketball News) - Manu Ginobili had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 90-84 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers at SBC Center.

Tim Duncan finished with 16 points and nine rebounds for the Spurs, who rebounded from a seven-point home loss to Chicago on Friday to move their record to 11-3 this season. Michael Finley had 12 points, Bruce Bowen 11 and Tony Parker 10 for the Spurs, who beat the Lakers for the sixth straight time in the regular season.

Lamar Odom tallied 27 points and 16 rebounds while Kobe Bryant contributed 25 points, but was just 9-of-33 from the floor for the Lakers, as he was blanketed by Bowen. Los Angeles didn’t lead the entire game, on the way to its second straight defeat and fourth loss in five games.

"We still have to get back to our level of defense a year ago," Bowen said. "(Head coach Gregg) Popovich is still being patient."

The Lakers scored six consecutive points to draw within 83-79 on a Sasha Vujacic three-point play with 2:27 left.

A putback by Odom had LA within 87-84 with 23.5 seconds remaining, but Duncan canned two foul shots with 15.4 seconds left to seal the victory.

Smush Parker and Vujacic each had 10 points for the Lakers, who shot 35.1 percent from the field.

The Spurs bolted to a 10-2 lead, as Duncan’s jumper capped the spurt. Another Duncan jumper extended San Antonio’s cushion to 25-8 with 4:39 left in the opening quarter, and the Spurs were in front 29-17 after 12 minutes.

The Lakers scored the final seven points of the half to close within 43-38, but the Spurs scored 10 of the first 14 points of the third quarter. A Bowen jumper extended San Antonio to a 53-42 advantage and the Spurs were in front 70-59 going into the fourth.

"We got them to play down to our level of basketball because in the first quarter they were playing far beyond us," Lakers head coach Phil Jackson said. "We were able to make a game out of it."
