CBA adds a new team

07.6.2007

Albany, NY (Basketball News) - The Continental Basketball Association announced on Friday that it has awarded an expansion to Pikeville, Kentucky and the team will participate in the upcoming 2007-08 season.

The team, which has been named the East Kentucky Miners and is owned by Trinity Sports & Entertainment Group, Inc., will play at the Kentucky Expo Center.

Kevin Keathley, 29, a native of the area, will be the Miners first coach. Most recently, he was an assistant coach of the Rio Grande Silverados of the American Basketball Association. (ABA).

Ten-year NFL veteran Jay Fiedler and South Florida entrepreneur Demetrius Ford co-founded Trinity Sports & Entertainment Group.

"Pikeville is a small town with big aspirations to become the economic and entertainment center of Eastern Kentucky," said Fiedler. "You can tell from all the infrastructure development that significant growth is on the horizon. The people here are some of the hardest working I’ve had the pleasure to meet, and they deserve access to big city entertainment that will draw people from all over Eastern Kentucky and the neighboring states into the downtown area. We are pleased to become a major contributor in the continued growth of the area."
