Two more teams set to join CBA

09.26.2006

Albany, NY (Basketball News) - The Continental Basketball Association continued its expansion wave on Tuesday, adding an additional two teams that will begin play for the 2006-07 season.

The league announced that the Vancouver Dragons and the Pittsburgh Xplosion will participate in the 2006-07 CBA season.

The Dragons will play their games at the 4,500-seat Agrodome on the grounds of the Pacific National Exhibition in downtown Vancouver British Columbia, host city of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Veteran coach Rick Turner will serve as the Dragons first head coach.

"We’re thrilled to be making a long term commitment to this league," said team owner Michael Tuckman. "The CBA is a premier league and organization that we could not be more pleased to join. We will strive to bring the best basketball to the city of Vancouver and we will do it at an affordable price. The fans will be excited to see what we have in store for them this season."

The Xplosion will call the Mellon Arena home and will be coached by local legend Larry Anderson.

"The CBA is excited about returning to Pittsburgh," said CBA director of operations Dennis Truax. "It’s a great sports town with passionate fans. The Xplosion have an established organization and we are excited to welcome them to the CBA. We’re thrilled that basketball is back in the Steel City after a long absence."
