Burse captures WNBA’s weekly honor Biography Burse, honored as the league’s top player for the first time, led the Storm to a pair of wins last week and helped the club to a six-game winning streak. She scored a career-high 27 points on 11-of-13 shooting in a 79-68 victory over Charlotte on July 29, then added 13 points and nine rebounds two nights later in a 77-72 win over Los Angeles. In her second year with Seattle and fifth in the WNBA, Burse is fifth in the league in field goal percentage (.511), 10th in blocked shots (1.17) and 14th in rebounding (6.0). Other candidates for the award were Connecticut’s Nykesha Sales, Houston’s Sheryl Swoopes, New York’s Ann Wauters, Sacramento’s Rebekkah Brunson, San Antonio’s Shannon Johnson and Washington’s Alana Beard.
