Griffith, Walker lead Monarchs over Mystics

Washington, DC (Basketball News) - Yolanda Griffith and DeMya Walker both totaled 11 points and eight rebounds, as the Sacramento Monarchs defeated the Washington Mystics, 70-52, at Verizon Center.

Ticha Penicheiro and Rebekkah Brunson both scored 10 points for the Monarchs, who improved to 2-1 on the young season.

Alana Beard scored a game-high 17 points for Washington, which lost again at home following its 89-80 setback to Connecticut in the season-opener on Saturday.

The contest was close until an 18-0 run by the Monarchs in the second half. Sacramento shot 36 percent from the floor (27-for-75), slightly better than the Mystics’ 32.1 percent.
