Swoopes named WNBA Player of the Week Biography Swoopes, a two-time league MVP, posted 18.5 points, seven assists and four rebounds last week as the comets posted a 2-0 record. On July 28th, Swoopes scored 21 points, handed out nine assists and grabbed five boards as Houston defeated the Seattle Storm, 71-67. Swoopes also made nine of her 10 free throw attempts as the Comets have won a season-high four straight games. Swoopes, who was the leading vote-getter for Saturday’s All-Star Game and will start in the contest, is second in the WNBA in scoring (18.0), third in steals (2.3) and 12th in assists (3.9). This marks the seventh time in her illustrious career that she has won this award. Swoopes also captured this honor earlier in 2005. Other candidates for WNBA Player of the Week were Charlotte’s Tangela Smith, Connecticut’s Nykesha Sales, Detroit’s Plenette Pierson, Sacramento’s DeMya Walker, San Antonio’s Shannon Johnson, and Washington’s DeLisha Milton-Jones.
