Morrison carries the ‘Zags past Stanford

Stanford almost came away with a win against Gonzaga. But Adam Morrison, being Adam Morrison, scored 34 points (12 in the last three minutes alone) to edge by the Cardinals 80-76. 

 

The ‘Zags trailed at halftime 43-38, but Morrison came up clutch (as if he hasn’t done it before) by igniting a surge of scoring with a 3-pointer to put his team up by four late in the second half.

 

Though they came away with a win to protect their longest home-game winning streak in the nation, the Bulldogs showed their vulnerability to non-conference teams. Stanford was more of a struggle than the teams they’re used to facing, and though Morrison is quite good, no doubt, it’s hard to say if he’d be as efficient if he faced competition on his level.

 

Gonzaga’s games against Maryland and Michigan State earlier in the season resulted in much tighter scores than their West Coast games. The Bulldogs lost to Connecticut, but then again, only one team in the nation has defeated them. And while their games against Maryland and Michigan State may have been close, the Bulldogs pulled out victories. 

 

So in a roundabout-rambling sort of way, my point is this: almost doesn’t count for anything – a win is a win whether it’s by four or 40. But it would definitely be interesting to see what Morrison could do against other Big East or ACC teams.
