Notre Dame gets �Pittsnogled’, Duke nearly loses

I think the West Virginia could easily be one of the top contenders in the NCAAs. After 11 straight losses to Notre Dame, the Mountaineers finally sought redemption, and bumped their Big East Conference record to 7-0.

WVU center Kevin Pittsnogle walked away with 22 points, even though the game seemed to be dominated by outside shots. Both teams had 10 three-pointers with 11 minutes left in the second half.

Not only did Pittsnogle reinforce his own dominance down low, but the Mountaineers added to the Big East’s supremacy. Their next biggest battle, though a conference game, will be their road game against No. 9 Pittsburgh on Feb. 9. Aaron Gray versus Pittsnogle: Things could get ugly.

In ACC news, Duke just barely made it past Boston College with a score of 83-81. Is this a sign of things to come? Is BC working its way up from No. 14, or is Duke losing its grip? The Blue Devils had an 18-point lead in the second half and watched it disappear. Boston College’s Jared Dudley, who had a game-high 28 points, brought the Eagles within one. But as Tyrese Rice looked to tie it, Duke’s Shelden Williams sent him to the floor – rejecting his shot and his team’s hopes of winning.

I wasn’t the only one who was expecting BC to come away with a major upset, though. Apparently Doug Flutie and Bill Belichick had their eyes set on a New England victory, since their football team let them down.
