6 Year’s In The Making

  By Marissa Avila
02.2.2004 - Updated on 07.9.2007

Caution . . . they may be small, but they can make an average high school ball player cry. But those are the requirements to attend the Adidas Jr. Phenom camp that will kick off August 6-8, 2004. Over 200, 12-14 "teen" year old players will gather from all over the USA to take part in the 1st. annual, Adidas Jr. Phenom camp in San Diego, CA. But it’s not all about hitting the hard wood floor. The invitation only camp will offer student athletes classes on preparing their success in high school; which will have to be attended to play in afternoon sessions and the championship game to be played by the top players from the conference. That scouts and teachers have agreed on. The NBA has what is called rookie week. Where all the rookies get tested on street and book smart skills. It is mandatory to attend, if missed they must complete the following year. That may benefit them in the long run. And yes, Kobe did attend. Top coaches and instructors will be intendance as well to rank this year’s elite campers. This is a crucial transition for young promising ball players. Fundamentals and words of wisdom will be heard throughout the gymnasium. Call it what you must, a "showcase" or " showboating". The bottom line is the place will be packed. I have witnesses first hand, those players who will attend this year’s camp. They have game, on and off the court. Adidas is defiantly providing a platform. Nike did it for L J. Who’s next?
