The guard suffered a scaphoid fracture in his left wrist on July 12 in the evening session of the Pan American Games Trials at Haverford College in Haverford, PA. The surgery was performed by Dr. David Ruch and Dr. Dean Taylor at the Duke University Medical Center.
"DeMarcus (Nelson) had successful surgery on his left wrist today and we are happy with the outcome of procedure," said head coach Mike Krzyzewski. "Despite the injury, he and I are both glad he had the opportunity to participate in the Pan American Games Trials. We look forward to having him back at 100 percent for the season."
Nelson averaged a team-high 14.1 points per game and was one of two guards in the ACC to average over 5.0 rebounds per game last season. In addition to finishing second on the team in rebounds with an average of 5.4 per game and also led the Blue Devils in steals with 44.
