Basketball Wives

Basketball Wives is a television show chronicling the life of the women in the lives of NBA players. It was the brainchild of Shaunie Nelson, formerly Shaunie O'Neal, ex-wife of Shaquille O'Neal. It is currently broadcast every Sunday on VH1. While the name of the show is Basketball Wives, none of the women featured is married to an active NBA player. The women primarily featured in the show include:

Shaunie Nelson (formerly Shaunie O'Neal, née Va'Shaundya Nelson), ex-wife of Shaquille O'Neal.
alt
Shaunie conceived the show some time before it began to film, and she and Shaquille separated in the intervening time. A "non-disparagement" clause in their divorce agreement means that Shaunie is not allowed to speak negatively of Shaquille in public, and as a consequence she makes no direct reference to him in the show. Shaquille is said to have considered legal action to prevent the show from being broadcast. She is currently dating 23-year-old model Marlon Yates.

Royce Reed, ex-girlfriend of Dwight Howard and the mother of his child, Braylon Joshua Robert Howard, born November 2007.
alt
Due to legal impositions, she is not allowed to mention Dwight Howard's name in the show or suggest any connection with him. As such she is generally referenced as a "former dancer for Miami and Orlando", without a mention of either franchise's name. On two previous occasions Dwight Howard has mounted lawsuits against her, once for posting pictures of Braylon online, and once for trashing him anonymously online.

Evelyn Lozada, ex-fiancée of Antoine Walker.
alt
Brooklyn-born, Bronx-raised Evelyn met Antoine Walker while working as an assistant to an celebrity attorney. Evelyn has a teenage daughter from a previous relationship. She currently owns an upscale shoe boutique in Coral Gables, a suburb of Miami. In April 2010 naked pictures of Evelyn Lozada were leaked to the internet.

Jennifer Williams, wife of Eric Williams.
alt
Jennifer Williams is the only one of the basketball wives actually married to a player, although Eric Williams retired from the NBA in 2007. Nicknamed "Red Carpet", she works in real estate and is an owner of Flirty Girl Fitness. The early episodes of Basketball Wives suggest a strained relationship between Jennifer and Eric, although they remain married.

Suzie Ketcham, ex-girlfriend of Michael Olowokandi and mother of his two children.
alt
Suzie met Olowokandi while she was a student at Pepperdine University, and the two were a couple for over ten years. She describes herself as a "social butterfly" and is active on the Miami social scene. She has ambitions of working in real estate and is currently involved with several charitable organizations.

Gloria Govan, fiancée of Matt Barnes and mother of his two children.
alt
24-year-old Gloria is a mother of twin boys and the youngest of the basketball wives. She often clashes with the other wives due to her adamant stance that Matt is different from other NBA players and that their relationship is strong enough to weather the standard challenges of the professional basketball lifestyle. There is tension between her and Shaunie at points due to the scandal surrounding her older sister. Laura Govan, formerly Gilbert Arenas' fiancée, is said to have cheated on Gilbert with Shaquille while he was still married to Shaunie. Shaunie, however, tells Gloria that she doesn't hold it against her in the first episode.

Naked Pictures Leaked of Evelyn Lozada of Basketball Wives

It's not just NBA players that are getting caught out when it comes to private snaps going public. (Click to read about Greg Oden's doodle, George Hill's premature problem and Dorell Wright's shortcomings.) Now it turns out that Evelyn Lozada, the ex-fiancée of Antoine Walker currently appearing in VH1's Basketball Wives, took some naked photos of her own. While it's unknown exactly how long ago they were captured and sent to that special someone, they hit the web very recently and have been widely disseminated since then. All that is known is that they originated from a man she previously dated to whom she sent the photos in confidence. As we've learned recently, though, it's not too uncommon for such shots to find their way out into the wide world.

[vid] Basketball Wives: Evelyn Lozada Plans Her 34th Birthday; Royce Reed an Issue Again

After an interesting opening episode, I was wondering what mischief the women of VH1's Basketball Wives would find themselves in for the second show. Khloé Kardashian on Children and a Sex Tape with Lamar Odom

Fresh from the TMI files comes another of KK's discussions of her definitely-not-a-publicity-stunt marriage to the Candyman.  Now it transpires that while Khloé Kardashian and Lamar Odom aren't planning children, Khloé isn't using the Pill either.

"We're just being a healthy married young couple. I'm not sitting here staring at an ovulation calendar. I'm not saying to Lamar, 'Okay, it's time, let's go!' Yes, I'm not on the Pill, but people stir my words around."

When you stop playing defense, doesn't that imply that you're trying for a baby?  Is this the way people who like surprises plan a family?  If you know, please inform us.

Kenya Bell is, by all accounts, a very intelligent woman.  She may have a little too much free time on her hands, though.

Dwight Howard's Baby Mother Royce Reed Dancing for Ludacris and Terrell Owens

[Update: We have a high-quality video of Royce's little dance routine at this link here, and you can see the reaction of the other basketball wives in the clip here.]

There's not much more to this particular story than the title and the video below.  There is, however, a lot more to the ongoing saga between Dwight Howard and Royce Reed, his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his son Braylon Howard.  Not only did Howard sue her for $9.2 million for defamatory comments she supposedly posted online while violated a gag order, but he followed that up with another lawsuit when Reed posted this picture of herself and her son on Twitter:

Well, if D12 and his legal team could find any legal justification for it, I'm sure this would be grounds for lawsuit number three.  As it is, the video of Royce Reed dancing like a woman possessed at a Super Bowl party attended by Ludacris and Terrell Owens will be just another source of embarrassment for Dwight Howard as he cultivates the squeaky-clean image that has helped him close numerous endorsement deals.  Perhaps the worst part of the clip comes when Ludacris announces that the two ladies (Reed was dancing with another young woman) will be winning two tickets each to a game between the Clippers and Kings.  Yeah.

Royce Reed had this to say shortly after the clip hit the web:

It's worth noting that Reed's tweets were set to private not long after that post was made.  You can draw your own conclusions as to why that happened, but first check out the clip below to see Royce Reed in action.

Eddie House's Wife Accuses MLB Grandpa of Groping Her

Odd title, I know, and the story itself doesn't make much more sense.

(From left, Shannon Allen (wife of Ray Allen), Vanity Perkins (wife of Kendrick Perkins) Charlsie House (wife of Eddie House) and Lloren Cook (girlfriend of Leon Powe.))

Here, in short, are the details:

- Charlsie House, wife of Boston Celtics guard Eddie House, was in attendance for the Suns' win over Gang Green on December 30.

- Brandon Laird shouted derogatory remarks at Charlsie House before allegedly taking a swing at one of the other women in the lounge.

- A brawl broke out, resulting in the arrest of two MLB players for scrapping with security guards at the U.S. Airways Arena.  Those two were brothers Brandon and Gerald Laird and Brandon Laird, the former a catcher for the Detroit Tigers and the latter a prospect for the New York Yankees.

- The Lairds' uncle was also arrested.

- When pressed for more information surrounding the affairs of that evening, Charlsie House also claimed that the grandfather of the two Lairds touched  her inappropriately.

Classy folks, those Lairds.

Vanessa Bryant, Wife of Kobe, Shows up at White House Wearing $51K Watch

After receiving an an apology ring for Kobe Bryant's transgressions valued at over $4 million, it's no wonder the first lady of the Lakers developed a taste for expensive jewelry.  When Vanessa Bryant visited the home of the first lady of the United States, then, she had to break out something a little special.  That came in the form of a Rolex Oyster watch costing over $51,000.  That may sound a little pricey initially, but you can't overpay for luxury, right?

Khloé Kardashian: Lamar Odom Has Better Personal Hygiene than I Do

With a frame that would serve her well in the NFL and a smile that causes my testicles to retreat to my abdominal cavity for safety, you'd hope that Double-K would at least have the good sense to keep herself clean.  Unfortunately, we now know that in her totally-not-phony marriage, she ranks second on the personal hygiene leaderboard.  We are aware of this fact because Khloé Kardashian herself confessed to OK! Magazine that husband Lamar Odom is cleaner than she.  To up the creep factor, she also added this horrifying detail:

"[Lamar Odom] is constantly cleaning down there."

Jason Kidd Missed Game to Attend Birth of Child by Porschla Coleman

Did anybody else wonder why the Mavericks were without their HOFer-to-be point guard for Sunday's ruthless spanking of the Knickerbockers?  Nor did I.  Still, it transpires that Jason Kidd missed the game to support girlfriend Porschla Coleman during the birth of his fifth child.  Evidently the relationship between Kidd and Coleman, who were first spotted together at a charity function hosted by LeBron James, moved quicker than they were letting on.

Shaq to Kids: Tell Shaunie's New Boyfriend I'll Kill Him

Shaunie O'Neal, producer of VH1's Basketball Wives (see pictures of the ladies here) and ex-wife of Shaquille O'Neal, apparently isn't getting along so well with the big fella.  Diesel was already mad that Shaunie was snapped with her new boyfriend Marlon Yates, and the television series prompted him to seek an injunction halting its production.  The basis for that legal maneuver was a "non-disparagement" clause in Shaunie and Shaq's divorce agreement which prohibits either of the former couple making negative comments about the other.

Shimmy Fans, Rejoice: Antoine Walker Attempting NBA Comeback

I'm a simple creature, and as such it doesn't take a whole lot to keep me content. With the weather warming up, then, and the NBA playoffs in full swing, I was already a fairly happy chappy. This morning, though, things just got a whole lot better.

After reading a number of vague reports that 'Toine was mulling a comeback, ESPN today reported that Employee Number 8 was indeed bringing his four-point-shooting ass back to the league. If the league will have him, that is. Here's the information we have right now:
