HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: Kendrick Perkins and LeBron James have no problem telling us how they feel, especially about each other.

Clearly, Perkins didn't like James teasing him on twitter after he got poster-jobbed by Blake Griffin in a recent game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers.

So Perkins responded. Now it's James' turn. Of course, the back-and-forth between these two isn't surprising.

Perkins and James have history. They two spent years battling each other for Eastern Conference supremacy with the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers.

They may have changed teams, but are still rivals. 

James' Heat could meet Perkins' Thunder in the NBA Finals. Both players know this. And both players are attempting to gain an edge during the dog days of the regular season.

‘I think it would be great, it would be fun to play in front of these fans again,’ James said after the Heat’s practice Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena. ‘I had a lot of fun times here. HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: LeBron James, let it die.

Eighteen months ago, James killed Cleveland and the Cavaliers by leaving as a free agent for the Miami Heat.

Worst of all, he announced his decision on national television, turning the process into a spectacle.

James was criticized all last year for this choice; his reputation has never recovered with fans, media, and even peers.

Sadly, the Cavaliers suffered through a brutal 2011, and had to watch James’ Heat advance to the NBA finals -only to lose to the Dallas Mavericks.

There is hope, though. The Cavaliers drafted star point guard Kyrie Irving first overall and power forward Tristan Thompson fourth overall.

Instead of recognizing his former team has moved on, instead of recognizing how wrong he was, James mentioned returning.

Yeah, sure. One day pigs will fly. One day hell will freeze over. And one day Commissioner Stern will apologize for how the NBA treated Seattle and Vancouver. 

This is about James’ ego. He wants to ride in on his white horse and save Cleveland. Of course, James’ comments are a distraction to the Heat, who are attempting to win a championship.

James should move on. Clearly, Cleveland has.

He’s recently hired a new “strategist,” a man who worked on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s gubernatorial campaign, so for all we know, his answers could all have been planned.

Unfortunately, the damage is done. Listening to one of his boys from his AAU team led to The Decision, where James announced he was taking his ‘talents to South Beach’ on live television.

His reputation has never recovered. James finally decided to turn to a professional to take care of his interests.

Perhaps they can start be censoring his recent comments on returning to Cleveland.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: He’s not Chris Paul or Deron Williams, but Ramon Sessions is a clear upgrade at point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Sessions is the kind of drive-and-kick table-setter Coach Mike Brown has long coveted for his offensive sets. Expect him to get minutes and eventually supplant veteran Derek Fisher as the starter.

All it cost the Lakers was Luke Walton,  a fan favourite who was out of Brown’s rotation, and a lottery protected first round draft pick.

With that being said, it’s not totally out of the question that they re-sign Jamison to a cap-friendly contract starting around $5 million. The Cavs would have to be clear with the 6-foot-9, 235-pounder that they are committed to Tristan Thompson as being the starter at power forward next year.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: The Cleveland Cavaliers want Antawn Jamison -just at the right price.

The veteran forward has done an admirable job mentoring Cleveland’s young stars like Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson, while still producing on-court as a combo forward.

This is no surprise.

Jamison has always been a professional, displaying leadership with some crazy Washington Wizards teams and coming off the bench during his prime for the Dallas Mavericks.

Of course, he can still play. Jamison’s length and ability to score around the hoop means he  has a few productive seasons left.

Sounds good, right? Well, not so fast.

Returning to the Cavaliers would likely mean a $10 million pay cut (Jamison is earning $15 million this year, and he’d probably get the $5 million mid level exception when he hits free agency in July.)

Would Jamison take the mid level exception on an improving team like Cleveland or discount his services even further to join, say Miami or Chicago, for a shot at a championship?

This is the dilemma Jamison will face. And it could see him leave Cleveland no matter how comfortable he is.

Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard told team owner Rich DeVos that he won't play for coach Stan Van Gundy anymore, WKMG in Orlando reported on Thursday. Howard was angered that Van Gundy publicly divulged that the superstar center asked management to have him fired, WKMG said, citing sources.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Dwight Howard is an All-World talent, but the Orlando Magic must wonder if he’s worth the trouble?

Consider Howard's past year: he requested a trade several times; he then told the world he wanted to stay with Orlando; he somewhat reluctantly opted-in for 2013; and has asked ownership several times to fire Coach Stan Van Gundy and/or GM Otis Smith.

Howard is arguably the league’s top defensive player and center; however, his personal situation has hijacked the season. His every move, word, and comment has dominated the news.

It’s created a massive distraction. Think Carmelo Anthony with the Denver Nuggets in 2011 and LeBron James with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010. Except there’s no end in sight to Howard’s ‘Indecision’ because he opted-in for 2013, which means the saga will continue.

Unless the Magic take action. For instance, the Lakers offered Andrew Bynum for Howard. Smith should see if that deal is still available because Bynum is amost Howard's equal and has room to improve.

Most importantly, such a move would bring closure. The current situation with Howard can’t continue.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Antawn Jamison is done mentoring a bad Cleveland Cavaliers squad and wants to win -even if it costs him millions of dollars.

The veteran forward will become a free agent in July when his $15 million per year contract expires. Expect Jamison to take the Mini Mid Level Exception and join a contender as a second-unit scorer.

Of course, there are the usual concerns when an established player takes a lesser role. In fact, some can’t do it (think Allen Iverson, Steve ’Finer Things’ Francis, and Stephon Marbury).

But Jamison is a different breed. He’s always been a team-first guy, volunteering to come off the bench during his prime with the Dallas Mavericks and conceding the spotlight to a brash Gilbert Arenas with the Washington Wizards.

So Jamison told the inquiring media before the Cavaliers’ final home game that he was likely moving on. The future, however, looks good with Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson.

I'm pretty sure I like LeBron James a lot less today than I did about two months ago. Back then, he was a player who everyone was sure could lead his team to a title and was probably the unquestioned best basketball player on Earth.

Today, he's an attention whore who wants us all to anxiously await the moment he "decides" what team he's going to suit up for next season.

Let me start off by saying that I owe Terez Owens a bit of an apology...

‘Honestly, I’ve been paying attention to Tebow all year even while I was watching the Cowboys,’ James said Friday, referring to his favorite NFL team. ‘So I love to see what a guy can do when his back is up against the wall, when everybody counts him out.’ James says he’s in the “same boat” as Tebow, whose Broncos play at New England Saturday in an AFC divisional playoff. He’s not necessarily talking about talent, but about scrutiny. ‘I can relate to him a lot,’ said James, who like Tebow, is one of the most talked-about athletes anywhere. ‘I see how the media plays it sometimes and how the critics go at him and to see him continue to prove them wrong. If it’s a good game or a bad game on his part, he continues to stay positive and move forward. And that’s a great sign. It’s a great leader. You respect that no matter if you’re in that same sport or not.’”

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: We knew LeBron James was a fan, but his connection to Tim Tebow, the controversial quarterback for the Denver Broncos, is apparently deeper than that.

James says he can relate to Tebow’s plight as the underdog, as the guy everyone counts out, as the real life Rudy, Rocky, and Cinderella Man.

This is too much.

First, James isn’t a victim. Far from it, in fact. He was blessed with amazing talents, and has benefited from his talent.

Second, James isn’t the underdog. He was the odds-on favourite, dubbed The Next One by media and fans while still in high school.

For instance, in grade nine, James - an Akron, Ohio native - amazed in work outs with the nearby Cleveland Cavaliers. And a couple of years later, ESPN televised his games as prep school senior.

The reason for the attention was simple: James was expected to succeed. Nobody doubted him or counted him out.

And he has suceeded by winning Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player, leading the Cavaliers and Miami Heat to multiple 50-win seasons, and advancing to two NBA Finals. Of course, James is arguably the most dominant player in the league today.

Third, the circus surrounding James in 2011 was largely self-induced. He turned his free agency into a spectacle with The Decision, and predicted multiple championships for the Heat before they played a single game.

Tebow is in the public eye in, large part, because of an unorthodox style and willingness to credit God and discuss his religious beliefs publicly.

So Tebow’s situation is very different than James’. No matter what James says or thinks.

Monday night, LeBron James received the Maurice Podoloff Trophy for the second time in as many years. The hardware is presented each year to the NBA’s Most Valuable Player. Being the MVP means different things to different people, but it is generally accepted that the award will go to the player who has proven himself to be the best of the best. It is the result of dedication, supreme talent and favorable on-court results. So few people achieve the honor that being named MVP almost certainly guarantees basketball immortality via enshrinement in the Hall of Fame.

So it’s a little puzzling that its winner would receive a Kia.

This comes up before every lottery. What’s the big deal? Of course the blasted thing is rigged! Those men in nice suits sitting there behind podiums are spending millions of dollars each year to field the best team they can put on. They have to appear at the lottery knowing that whole thing is rigged, right? You’re going to cite the Patrick Ewing lottery, eh? Please do not. That has been done over and over. Realize that if your team is in the lottery, they suck and need help.

After false rumors that the big day had come a few weeks ago, it's been confirmed that Keyshia Cole has given birth to a healthy baby boy.  She and Boobie Gibson, who have been engaged since New Year's Day when he reportedly gave her an $800,000 ring containing a 10-carat diamond, welcomed their son into the world at 11:54 PM on Tuesday.  The baby, who tipped the scales at 7lb, 3oz., was named Daniel Gibson Jr. after his father.

If you heard that Keyshia Cole went into labor with Daniel "Boobie" Gibson's baby yesterday, you heard wrong.  It is true that the Cavs guard showed up late to the game after attending to his fiancée and unborn child at the hospital, but it wasn't because the future NBA baby was on the way.  Cleveland GM Danny Ferry was the one to clarify things, announcing that Gibson's absence was because Keyshia Cole had been taken into the hospital for "precautionary reasons" and that Boobie had been excused to be by her side.  Gibson was back in the building in time for the start of the second half, and he was focused enough to chip in twelve points after the intermission.

Even though Boobie and Keyshia's baby may not be here quite yet, it's not far off.  Cole's due date is March 2, which is sandwiched between a Cavs home game against New York on the first and a road contest against the Nets on the third.  As always, you can check back here for HoopsVibe's coverage of the latest NBA gossip.

For anyone who watches MTV (and apparently some still do), it would come as no surprise that LBJ knew Em's verse word-for-word.

Lebron's new home is under construction. The 35,000 square foot Ohio mansion will reportedly include a casino, two-lane bowling alley, barber shop, aquarium, sports bar and a recording studio.

The master bedroom will also have a two-story walk-in closet. Additionally, the home will have a six-car garage.

Baron Davis' agent, Todd Ramasar, says first priority for Davis is getting his back healthy. Seeking second opinion and will go from there.

Baron Davis has arrived at training camp for the Cavaliers out of shape and with a serious back injury.

Once again, this is disappointing. According to TNT Broadcaster Kenny Smith, Davis has the tools to be an All-World point guard, but poor conditioning and a brittle body has wrecked his career.

So the Cavaliers are considering using the amnesty on Davis, and waiving the remaining two-years and $28 million on his contract. Then the point guard who had so much potential will again have to start over.

Here’s the question: what does Davis have left?

A recent Shaquille O’Neal rumor has him close to signing a deal with the Boston Celtics to go on another adventure of ring chasing. It’s sad to see the old man like this chasing these things when he already has four. He is also a shell of his former self. The new generation of fans will probably only remember Shaq within the past 4 years. The long time fans barely remember O’Neal during his Orlando Magic days. Please don’t forget – Shaq was the most physically dominant center in the last 30 years.

We all saw LeBron James announce Miami. The moment will always be known as “The Decision.” To basketball purists, we might see this as “The Moment where LeBron threw everything away.” He had the NBA world at the palm of his hand and threw it in the trash. I knew he was going to leave, but LeBron didn’t have to do the state of Ohio dirty like that. Wow! Did this guy just do that? I’m flabbergasted. I am trying to understand this entire free agency period and the Big Network’s exploitation of Ohio.

Just when I think I'm out, this story pulls me back in. After reading that LeBron's injury situation was more serious than reported, King James blew up in game three and temporarily put those rumours to rest. Game four saw a slight drop-off for the Akron Hammer (I'm still rooting for that nickname), but there was nothing in his near-triple-double performance to suggest severe damage to his shooting arm.

If someone were to rank celebrity body parts by media attention, LeBron's right elbow would currently fall somewhere between Kim Kardashian's ass and Megan Fox's stumpy thumbs. Unlike those other famous anatomical anomalies, however, the state of 'Bron-'Bron's 'bow is shrouded in secrecy. While the reports and MRI results suggest that it's more a boo-boo (well, a sprained elbow and bone bruise) than a fully-fledged injury, there are whispers that the situation is a little more serious for the Akron Hammer (it'll catch on) and his shooting arm.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Shaquille O’Neal’s tell-all tour continues. No player, coach, man, or woman will be spared.

The future Hall of Fame center has a spill-the-beans book coming out, so he and his people have leaked excerpts to create a buzz.

Like O’Neal’s World Wars with Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant. Like O`Neal`s take on LeBron James ignoring Coach Mike Brown in Cleveland. Like O`Neal`s lack of a relationship with iconic center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The latest: O’Neal nearly fought Pat Riley, also known as the oil slick, during practice with Miami. Of course, O’Neal says he was heroically sticking up for teammate Jason Williams.

This may or may not be true. There’s no disputing O’Neal has had problems with coaches.

There was the fallout with Riley. There were problems with Phil Jackson, another all-time great on the sideline. And he undermined Terry Porter in Phoenix.

So before blaming others, O’Neal should perhaps look inward first. This, however, is unlikely.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: He speaks the truth.

Magic Johnson isn’t hating on LeBron James by saying that the Miami Heat three-man can’t compare with Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant.

Magic’s reasoning is fair: Bryant has five championships, while James has none.

After all, championships have long been the mark of greatness in the NBA. Superstars, the real elites, measure themselves by the number of times they hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy in June and not individual statistics.

Johnson was simply holding James accountable to this criteria. To be fair, James is currently superior to Bryant, but has yet to enjoy true post-season success.

Until James does, he’s not in the same company as Bryant.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Absence, it seems, has made LeBron James’ heart go fonder.

Not long ago the All-World superstar showed little or no regard for his fans in Cleveland, announcing on live television he was leaving the Cavaliers for the Miami Heat.

And then it began. The hate.

Cavaliers’ owner Dan Gilbert declared jihad in a letter on the team’s website. Fans burnt his jerseys. And The Backlash to The Decision started.

James, of course, responded. He told anyone and everyone he was an Akron guy and that he was not, in fact, from Cleveland.

After a year of defiance and being public enemy number one, James is changing his tune in an attempt to make peace with those he perhaps alienated.

Now he misses his fans in Cleveland. Six months ago such an admission would have been about as likely as pigs flying.

HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Well, Baron Davis is keeping it positive.

While some are painting a picture of doom and gloom, the Cleveland Cavaliers point guard believes good things are coming from the recent negotiations.

Davis even downplayed the tension between the two sides on Friday that saw Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade and Commissioner David Stern get into a confrontation.

So some good news. And Davis, the optimist, believes good things will happen if the two sides continue talking.

Perhaps.

Eventually the players and/or owners have to move on Basketball Related Income. Then, and only then, will everything else like system issues and guaranteed contracts get solved.

Only then will there be reason optimism.
