Nash and Terry Both Interested in Heat
Rumors have been flying all day about the possibility of Steve Nash and Jason Terry joining the Miami Heat next season.
Nash went on The Dan Patrick Show (a great show to check out for those of you that haven’t yet tuned in) yesterday and pretty much said he’s open to talking to other teams in the offseason.
"I love what they’re doing there," Nash said. He went on saying, "A lot of people don’t like them because they put all that talent there. But they’re professional, they play hard, they play together. Their coaching staff has done a great job, so I have a tremendous amount of respect for them."
I love that Nash spoke this way about the Heat. Class all the way. And he’s right; the Heat get a bad rap because of how stacked they are but people who don’t watch their games don’t realize how hard they work on the floor. They’re running in transition, playing hard defense, and staying disciplined in offensive schemes. They’re doing the things this season that are beyond natural ability and there’s no question that Steve Nash would fit right into the Heat’s formula.
Nash also expressed interest in staying with the Suns or even joining Dirk and company in Dallas.
Speaking of Dallas, flyboy Jason Terry aka "Jet" also stirred the pot a little yesterday with the comments he made to Fox Sports Florida.
On being a good fit for Miami, Terry said, "I’m a guy that’s been in this league 13 years, (averaging) 15 points a night, easy. Off the bench or the starting lineup, it doesn’t matter. So I think I’d be an asset to them." Something to note: Terry made these comments two hours before the Mavs played, and got stomped out by Miami last night, 106-85. You would think that "a guy that’s been in this league 13 years" would be focusing less on playing for his opponent and more on getting his team (which is barely on the fringe to make the playoffs) a win against them. Them being the Heat.
As much as I’m not a Jason Terry fan, there’s no question he’s been a solid performer in the league though. So I’m sure Miami has some interest.
Terry has been averaging 14.9 PPG, 2.3 RPG and 3.5 APG for the Mavericks this season. Nash’s current season numbers are 12.9 PPG, 3.10 RPG, and 11.2 APG for the Suns.
But one thing is for sure: the Heat will certainly get even hotter next season if they land either veteran, Nash or Terry.
