BlockBuster Trade Sends Garnett and Pierce To Brooklyn.
Blockbuster trade sends Garnett, Pierce, and Terry to Brooklyn Nets.
HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: This trade rocked the 2013 NBA Draft and makes the Brooklyn Nets a legit contender for a championship.
ESPN broke the story late last night that the Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics have agreed to a blockbuster trade that will send Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Jason Terry to the Brooklyn Nets. In return the Boston Celtics receive first round draft picks in 2014, 2016, and 2018, as well as Reggie Evans, Kris Humphries, Gerard Wallace, and Keith Bogans.
This is the Celtics blowing up their core and looking to rebuild. They lost Ray Allen to the Miami Heat last season. The lost Doc Rivers to the Los Angeles Clippers just a couple days ago and it looks like Danny Ainge saw the writing on the wall.
The trade won't be final until July 10th, but all ducks appear to be in a row with KG waiving is no-trade clause to make the deal go through. Nets' General Manager refused to comment on the subject saying, "Guys, honestly, I can't go any further than this. Honestly, you can ask all the questions. Honestly, I can't. At the time that it's appropriate, I will address it if possible, but at this time, I can't."
This trade will give the Brooklyn Nets the starting five of Garnett, Pierce, Lopez, Johnson, and Williams. That's an incredibly talented squad. If these talents will all meld together remains to be seen. Just ask the Los Angeles Lakers what it feels like to lose with an All-Star starting five.
One thing is for sure, the New York Knicks vs. Brooklyn Nets rivalry will definitely be on for next season. Those should be some of the best games in the Eastern Conference. The other thing that is for sure is that the Boston Celtics aren't looking to be competitive for a couple more years.
