Butler, Bledsoe, Redick Trade.
NBA Trade Alert: Butler, Bledsoe, and Redick involved in 3-team trade.
HoopsVibe's Very Quick Call: The Clippers pick up J.J. Redick in the deal, but will need more if they want to make a run at the West.
A three team trade between the Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns, and Milwaukee Bucks just went down. It sends Caron Butler and Eric Bledsoe to the Phoenix Suns, J.J. Redick and Jared Dudley to the Los Angeles Clippers, and two 2nd-round draft picks to the Milwaukee Bucks.
The obvious loser in the deal is the Bucks who only come out of this with 2nd-round draft picks. They had acquired J.J. Redick from the Orlando Magic earlier in the season, but decided to not resign him. It is anyone's guess what Milwaukee is thinking.
The clear winner is the Phoenix Suns who acquire two quality players. Caron Butler is a 2-time NBA All-Star that isn't afraid of the big shot and can still put up solid numbers. He's also a decent defender with a good outside shot. The future for the Suns is in Bledsoe who was the 18th overall pick in 2010 out of Kentucky. Bledsoe remains one of the quickest players in the league. His game has grown under Chris Paul in Los Angeles and he looks ready to start. Bledsoe averaged 8.5 PPG and 3.1 APG in 76 games with the Clippers last season, but look for him to have a breakout season for the Suns this year.
The Clippers gave up two solid players in this deal, but got something they desperately needed. LA needed a true shooting-guard. Redick is a good addition who will benefit from Chris Paul kick-out passes. Redick is expected to sign a 4-year $24 million contract with the Clippers. They also pick-up Jared Dudley who has hit some big perimeter shots in his career.
It's good to see the new general manager for the Suns, Ryan McDonough, making real moves to improve his team. McDonough acquired Alex Len in the NBA draft last week and now how Butler and Bledsoe. A hungry GM in Phoenix will spell an improved Suns team this season.
