Nick Young sings a 1-year deal with the Lakers as Monta Ellis inks a 3-year deal with the Mavs.
HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: Free agents are vanishing fast two more just got scooped. Los Angeles & Dallas can’t be thinking these two guys makeup for Howard though.
NBA free agents are getting snatched up fast these days. After the signing of Dwight Howard, teams have been frantically signing players to secure the best lineups they can put together. The Brooklyn Nets grabbed Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Jason Terry. The The Los Angeles Lakers singed Nick Young to a 1-year contract worth $1.18 million and the Dallas Mavericks grabbed Monte Ellis for a 3-year contract to the tune of $30 million ($25 of it guaranteed). Young’s contract is for the veteran minimum. He agreed to this because he we so supposedly so hungry to play for the Lakers. Maybe he should have had a talk with Dwight instead of Kobe?
Young adds 10.6 PPG to the Los Angeles back court. His style of play will fit well with Mike D’Antoni’s up-temp approach, but this certainly will not significantly help fill the void left from Howard’s departure. The Mav’s pickup Ellis’ 19.2 PPG and 6 APG, but still look to be struggling to make any real dents in the West. Ellis will help, but Dallas will struggle again next year with or without him.
