NBA Season Opens with Huge Matchups and Derrick Rose.
Clippers vs. Lakers, Chicago vs. Miami and DRose.
HoopsVibe’s Very Quick Call: I know what I’ll be doing October 29th.
The 2013-2014 NBA season will get off to a bang October 29th with some massive matchups. The Chicago vs. Miami game will feature #thereturn of Derrick Rose. His return was already highly anticipated, but with his recent proclamations of being the best player in the NBA there is even more fuel to this curiosity fire.
This could also be a possible Eastern Conference Finals matchup if both teams live up to their potential. No disrespect to the Indiana Pacers, but with former MVP Derrick Rose running the point back in Chicago, they go from good to amazing in the time it takes to say, “Please don’t get injured again Derrick.” Ok, that took to long, but you get the idea.
The other major matchup on the NBA’s opening night is the inter-LA rivalry of Clippers vs. Lakers. This might have been more of a competitive game if the Lakers hadn’t lost Dwight Howard to the Houston Rockets and figured out how to run an offense using their diverse talents, but I expect this game to be a coming out party for the Clippers new lineup. The Clippers had a solid off-season both holding on to Chris Paul and adding 3-point specialist J.J. Redick.
The Clippers ability to consistently make outside jumpers and improving their free throw shooting are major considerations for their ability to garner wins come play-off time. In the season opener versus the Lakers, it will be Lob City at it’s best. The combination of the Lakers’ horrible transition defense and the Clippers high-flying big (Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan) will result in enough dunks on opening night to keep ESPN’s Top 10 Plays scratching their creative heads on which ones to use.
