Knoxville, TN (Sports Network) – According to a published report, the
Tennessee Volunteers signed basketball coach Buzz Peterson to a new six-year
contract that will keep him with the team through the 2008-09 season.
The Tennessean reported that with postseason incentives and camps, that
Peterson could make over $900,000 per year.
Peterson, who had two years left on his previous contract, is 32-28 in two
seasons with the Vols. Last year, Tennessee finished 17-12 and lost to
Georgetown in the first round of the NIT.
Peterson was named the 16th head coach in Tennessee history on April 4, 2001
after helping the University of Tulsa to a 26-11 record and a NIT
championship during the 2000-01 campaign. In seven seasons as a head coach
he has recorded a 137-78 career record.
The Vols start their season Friday against Wofford.
