Freshman forward suspended by Marquette

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) – The University of Marquette suspended
freshman James Matthews from all basketball-related activities.

Matthews was handed the suspension to allow him to concentrate on his
academic responsibilities.

“At this point, James has been suspended from all team activities so that he
can concentrate on his academic responsibilities. We both want what is best
for James now, and in the future,” head coach Tom Crean explained.

Matthews did not play in the Golden Eagles’ season-opening 52-45 victory over
St. John’s in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Madison Square Garden.
