Lowe blow; Purdue shocks Duke in Alaska
Anchorage, AK (Sports Network) – Kenneth Lowe scored a game-high 22 points
to lead Purdue over second-ranked Duke, 78-68, in the championship game of the
Great Alaska Shootout at Sullivan Arena.
Chris Booker added 20 points for the Boilermakers (4-0), who earned their
place in the title game by knocking off Texas State in the first round and
Seton Hall in their semifinal tilt. Purdue leads the all-time series with
Shelden Williams posted 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Blue Devils (3-1),
who got by Pacific in the opening round and Liberty in the semifinals.
Duke led by six at halftime, but was outscored 45-29 after the break. The
Boilermakers came right out of the locker room to go on an 11-0 run and they
led the rest of the way. Booker capped off the crucial burst with a dunk and
Purdue led 44-39 with 16:30 to play.
The Boilermakers increased their lead to double digits with 1:50 remaining
when Brandon McKnight’s basket put Purdue ahead, 68-58.
