Former Duke center transfers to Northwestern

Evanston, IL (Sports Network) – Northwestern men’s basketball head coach
Bill Carmody announced on Monday that former Duke center Michael Thompson has
decided to transfer into the school and enroll in classes starting this
semester.

Thompson announced last month that he was leaving Duke to find more playing
time. He will be eligible to play following the fall semester of 2004, which
will officially end December 10.

“We are excited to have Michael join our program,” Carmody said of Thompson,
who was a McDonald’s All-American in 2002. “We recruited him out of high
school; this is a case of better late than never.”

The 6-10, 245-pound Joliet, Illinois native saw action in three of four games
this season and averaged 2.3 points in 11 total minutes. He scored a season-
high seven points in a 76-47 win over Liberty in the semifinals of the Great
Alaska Shootout in November.
