Akron, OH (Sports Network) – The University of Akron re-assigned men’s
basketball head coach Dan Hipsher on Tuesday, relieving him of his coaching
duties and re-assigning him within the University’s office of public affairs
and development.

On Monday, Akron lost in the first round of the Mid-American Conference
tournament for the second-straight season. This year, the team compiled a
13-15 record overall and was 7-11 in league play.

“Dan Hipsher has given his all to our men’s basketball program, and the Zips
student-athletes both on and off the court,” said Director of Athletics Mike
Thomas. “Dan was totally dedicated to his program and his efforts are greatly
appreciated. Unfortunately, the team’s performance is not up to the level it
needs to be and it’s time to move in a different direction.

Hipsher posted a 112-137 record in nine seasons at Akron, including a 72-90
mark in MAC play. However, he finished just 1-7 in the MAC’s postseason.
