Dambrot promoted to Zips Head Coach

Akron, OH (Sports Network) – Akron promoted assistant Keith Dambrot to
head coach for the men’s basketball team on Wednesday, replacing fired
coach Dan Hipsher.

Dambrot’s last head coaching job was with NBA phenom Lebron James at St.
Vincent-St. Mary high school. He has been an assistant with the Zips the
last three years.

However, Dambrot has had head coaching experience on a college level. He
coached Central Michigan in 1993 but after two seasons he was fired for using
a racial slur towards his players. From 1989-1990 he coached Ashland,
compiling a 49-13 mark.

Hipsher was fired Tuesday, a day after Akron lost in the first round of the
MAC tournament for the second consecutive year. Akron finished 13-15 this
season, posting a 7-11 record in conference play.
