SMU hires Jimmy Tubbs

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) – Southern Methodist on Friday named Jimmy Tubbs
as its men’s head basketball coach.

Tubbs spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the Oklahoma
Sooners. He helped guide Oklahoma to a combined 47-18 record during that span.

The 55-year-old Tubbs, who becomes the 15th head coach in school history,
spent 12 seasons at Southern Methodist as an assistant under head coaches Mike
Dement and John Shumate.

Tubbs replaces Dement, who was fired last month. Dement was in his ninth year
with the school and compiled a record of 138-120 and led the Mustangs to just
one post-season appearance — a 2000 NIT bid. He had one year remaining on his
contract.
