Elder injured early for Georgia Tech
St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) – Georgia Tech suffered an early setback in its
72-67 Sweet 16 win over Nevada on Friday, losing guard B.J. Elder to a right
ankle sprain less than two minutes into the first half.
Elder twisted his ankle underneath Nevada guard Kirk Snyder, who landed on
Elder after an unsuccessful dunk attempt. He limped off the court in obvious
pain and was carted to the locker room for X-rays before re-entering the game
for about a minute later in the half.
Third-seeded Georgia Tech never got its star guard back after that, but it
managed to overcome a halftime deficit to end 10th-ranked Nevada’s Cinderella
run and move on to face Kansas in the round of eight on Sunday.
In Elder’s absence, Marvin Lewis was the only Yellow Jacket to score in double
