Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) – Loyola-Maryland has named Jimmy Patsos as its
new men’s basketball coach.

Patsos had been an assistant at Maryland since 1991 and will become the 20th
head coach in Loyola history.

“I’m very excited to be a part of something special,” said Patsos. “When we
came to Maryland, we built it from the bottom up. I know that we can do the
same at Loyola and I look forward to building a strong program.”

Loyola finished just 1-27 this past season, including a mark of 1-17 in the
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

“Jimmy’s background and experience will be needed to improve the current state
of the basketball program,” said Loyola athletic director Joe Boylan. “I’ve
known him for 12 years and have had the opportunity to watch him grow and
mature as one of the nation’s best assistant coaches. I am confident that he
will grow into one of college basketball’s top head coaches.”

Patsos will replace Scott Hicks, whose contract was not renewed after the
2003-04 season.
