FIU names new basketball coach
Miami, FL (Sports Network) – Florida International has named Sergio Rouco its
new men’s basketball coach.
Rouco returns to FIU for the third time. He was an assistant under Rich Walker
and Bob Weltlich from 1987-91 and for Donnie Marsh from 2000-03.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling to come home,” said Rouco. “Becoming the head
coach at FIU has always been a dream of mine and it’s an opportunity I feel
fortunate to have been offered.”
Last year Rouco was an assistant at UTEP and helped the Miners reach the NCAA
Rouco was a head coach in the Miami high school ranks in the early 1990s. He
then coached in the Dominican Republic Professional League.
