UConn basketball teams celebrate

Hartford, CT (Sports Network) – The University of Connecticut men’s and
women’s basketball teams were honored Sunday with a parade through the streets
of Hartford.

The school became the first to win both the men’s and women’s national
basketball titles in the same season.

According to city officials, about 300,000 people lined the parade route,
which featured players and coaches atop double-decker buses going through
downtown Hartford to the state Capitol for a rally.

The UConn men beat Georgia Tech 82-73 in San Antonio on April 5 for the second
national title in five years under head coach Jim Calhoun.

Stars Emeka Okafor and Ben Gordon were among those cheered by the fans. Both
have announced their intentions to leave school early for the NBA Draft.

Diana Taurasi, the first player chosen in Saturday’s WNBA Draft, led the UConn
women to their third straight national title with a 70-61 triumph over
Tennessee on April 6 in New Orleans.
