Indiana hires Rupp as assistant basketball coach

Bloomington, IN (Sports Network) – Indiana Friday hired Kerry Rupp to be an
assistant coach on the men’s basketball team. Rupp spent the last part of the
2003-04 season as the interim head coach of the Utah men’s hoops program after
coach Rick Majerus resigned in January due to health problems.

Rupp led the Utes to the Mountain West Conference tournament championship and
a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The school did not interview Rupp for the job
after the season and new coach Ray Giacoletti stated in April that he would
not retain him.

Prior to coming to Utah, Rupp was a high school coach in the state for 24
years. He joined Majerus’ staff prior to the 2001-02 season.
