Kansas guard Wilkes transfers

Berkeley, CA (Sports Network) – Kansas Jayhawks guard Omar Wilkes has
transferred to the University of California.

Wilkes spent only one season with the Jayhawks and averaged 1.4 points and 0.9
rebounds over 21 games.

The son of former Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers star Jamaal
Wilkes decided to transfer in order to hopefully see more playing time and to
be closer to his family. Under NCAA rules, he must sit out the 2004-05
campaign, but will still have three years of eligibility remaining.

“We are very pleased Omar has decided to transfer to Cal,” said Golden Bears
head coach Ben Braun. “He is a versatile guard who should help strengthen our
backcourt. We look forward to him joining our program this season.”

Wilkes attended Loyola High School, where he was a two-time Division I-AA CIF
Southern Section Player of the Year.
