Kentucky’s Cote transfers to Northwestern

Evanston, IL (Sports Network) – Kentucky Wildcats forward Bernard Cote is
headed to Northwestern after agreeing to transfer on Wednesday.

The 6-9, 230-pound Cote will take classes in the fall but will sit out the
2004-05 season due to NCAA transfer rules. Cote will be eligible to play as a
junior in the 2005-06 campaign.

“We are excited to have Bernard join the program,” Northwestern head coach
Bill Carmody said. “He was a player we originally recruited when he was in
high school — we were impressed with him because he is a big, strong kid who
has good range on his shot and can get up and down the floor well.”

Cote played in 27 of Kentucky’s 32 games last year as a sophomore, averaging
nearly six minutes per contest and scoring 39 points. As a freshman, Cote
appeared in 25 contests and averaged nearly five minutes of action per outing.

Cote becomes the third men’s basketball player to transfer to Northwestern in
the last year, joining Tim Doyle (St. John’s) and Mike Thompson (Duke).
