La Salle forward David Bell transfers to East Carolina
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) – David Bell, who played at La Salle the
past two seasons, has transferred to East Carolina.
Bell, 6’7″, started 25 games last season as a sophomore and averaged 5.8
points and 2.5 rebounds in 21 minutes of action per contest.
As a freshman, Bell played in all 29 games including eight starts and averaged
7.5 points per game.
“We’re very happy to get David,” said Pirates head coach Bill Herrion. “We’re
getting a youngster that played two years of college basketball at a very high
level in the Atlantic 10 Conference.”
Due to NCAA rules regarding transferring between Division I universities, Bell
will sit out the 2004-05 season before playing with the Pirates in 2005-06.
La Salle has made plenty of off-court news since the 2003-04 season ended.
Billy Hahn resigned after three seasons as the Explorers head coach and John
Giannini left Maine to take over the position.
Hahn resigned on July 24 amid allegations of rape involving former players and
a former member of the women’s club. Michael Cleaves and Gary Neal are
awaiting trial on rape and other related charges for the June incident. Both
players are no longer students at the school.
