Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) – Hakim Warrick poured in a game-high 20 points
with six rebounds to lead No. 6 Syracuse to a 56-45 victory over Princeton in
the second round of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at the Carrier Dome.
Warrick shot 6-of-9 from the field and also had three steals and two blocks on
the way to getting named Most Valuable Player of the Syracuse Region. Demetris
Nichols added 14 points for the Orange (2-0), who will now travel to Madison
Square Garden for their semifinal tilt against 12th-ranked Mississippi State
Thursday. Will Venable paced the Tigers (1-1) with 17 points, hitting every
shot that left his hand. He made all five of his field goals, including one
from long range, and was 6-for-6 from the line to go with his six boards.
Princeton still dropped its fifth straight to the Orange despite another 11
points from Judson Wallace.

Final Score: (12) Mississippi State 55, Birmingham-Southern 48

Birmingham, AL (Sports Network) – Winsome Frazier netted 18 points to lead
12th-ranked Mississippi State to a 55-48 victory over Birmingham-Southern in
the second round of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at the Birmingham Jefferson
Convention Complex. Gary Ervin added 13 points for the Bulldogs (2-0).
Shane Power chipped in 10 points for Mississippi State, which will take on
No. 6 Syracuse in New York on Thursday. The Orange defeated Princeton 56-45
earlier Friday. James Collins was the only player to reach double digits with
14 points for Birmingham Southern (1-1), which defeated Alabama A&M 79-69 in
the opening round.
