Pitt cruises past Memphis in Jimmy V Classic
New York, NY (Sports Network) – Carl Krauser scored 17 points, grabbed seven
rebounds and handed out four assists to lead No. 11 Pittsburgh over Memphis,
70-51, in the Jimmy V Classic from New York’s famed Madison Square Garden.
Chris Taft added 13 points for the Panthers (6-0), who won their first six
games of the season for the third straight season. Last year, Pitt rattled off
18 straight wins to start its campaign.
Pittsburgh, which played its first game outside of the Steel City, has won 21
straight contests against non-conference opponents.
Sean Banks netted a game-high 18 points for the Tigers (5-3), who are 2-3
since starting the season with three consecutive victories.
This was the third game this season that Memphis has played at Madison Square
Garden, having participated in a pair of bouts as part of the Coaches vs.
Cancer Classic back in mid-November.
The Panthers started the game on a 17-3 sprint and they never looked back.
Taft had seven of those points and capped off the run on a bucket with 15:49
left in the first half.
