Major problem: Gator assistant arrested on drug charges

Gainesville, FL (Sports Network) – Florida basketball administrative assistant
and former player Major Parker was arrested on charges of selling half a
kilogram of cocaine to an undercover officer.

According to Jerry Sanford, managing assistant for the U.S. Attorney’s
Office, Parker and another person were charged with conspiracy to possess with
intent to distribute cocaine.

Parker, who was a captain on Florida’s Final Four team in 2000, was arrested
and later appeared in federal court and arraigned on a criminal complaint. He
is awaiting formal charges in the Alachua County Jail, according to Sanford.

The 26-year old Parker, one of current head coach Billy Donovan’s first
recruits, played for the Gators from 1997 to 2001. He was immediately
suspended by the team.
